The MMSNF-2011 "Materials Modeling and Simulation for Nuclear Fuels" will be held in Aix en Provence, France, from September 26^th to 28^th. The workshop will be organized jointly by the Cadarache CEA Nuclear Energy Division and IRSN (Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire)

The workshop is supported by the F-BRIDGE European project in order to strengthen the link between the European and international community in the field of nuclear fuel multi-scale modeling and simulation.
MMSNF-2011 will take place the week immediately after the second F- school on "synergy between modeling and experiments for the investigation of nuclear fuels and materials under irradiation", which will be organized in Cambridge, UK, from September 19^th to 23^rd.

The goal of MMSNF workshops is to stimulate research and discussions on modeling and simulations of nuclear fuels, to assist the design of improved fuels and the evaluation of fuel performance. In addition to research focused on existing or improved types of LWR reactors, recent modeling programs, networks, and links have been created to develop innovative nuclear fuels and materials for future generations of nuclear reactors. Examples can be found in Europe (e.g. F-BRIDGE project and ACTINET network and SAMANTHA cooperative network), in the USA (e.g. CMSN network activities) and also in Japan (e.g. the NXO project). The rationale behind this workshop is to contribute to improving the communication and to stimulate synergies among different groups.

Programme

The workshop will start on Monday, September 26th at 8.30 am and will finish Wednesday, September 28th at 5 pm. The general organisation of the sessions is shown in the table below. The detailed program is available here and the book of abstracts here
The workshop will consist of 6 sessions: . Electronic structure (“first principles”) calculations . Empirical potential methods . Meso-scale methods . Continuum theory-based models Fuel performance codes . Thermodynamic calculations . Experimental studies	click to enlarge
Each session will consist of 20 minute oral presentations, each followed by 10 minutes of questions and discussion. In addition, a general discussion session will take place each day. Two poster sessions will take place on Monday and Tuesday evening. The posters will stay in the room to the end of the workshop to promote discussions. The format for posters is A0, portrait-oriented. Finally, a visit of Cadarache center facilities will be organised on Tuesday afternoon.
